For The love of ‘Clean’ Cleaning

Happy February! Wow, it’s been a hot minute since my last post…yikes! But I’m back to talk one of my favorite past-times…cleaning! And this isn’t just any cleaning post, this is how I use clean ingredients and products to really clean our home.

Cleaning. Some people have a love/hate relationship with it, me, I love cleaning. It’s relaxing for me. I honestly do some of my best thinking while I vacuum… I do my lists while I clean and to make my husband super annoyed, I usually start having conversations while I vacuum as well. Yep, I live such a crazy life.

Since I love cleaning so much, I take into consideration what I use to clean everything very seriously. From my dish soap to what we use to clean our windows, ingredients are important. Sustainability is important. Research is important! So here are a few of my tried and true products and companies that I’ve grown to love and support!

One of my favorite clean companies is Seventh Generation. I use their dish soap, recycled paper towels, all purpose cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, and our personal favorite, Seventh Generation Free and Clear Laundry Detergent. We don’t use laundry detergents with ‘fragrance’ in it due to the lack of ingredient transparency. But the Free and Clear version is free from any fragrance and we don’t have to worry about Raegan breaking out in hives every day. Seriously, the kid sleeps in one blanket or wears clothing washed in everyday laundry detergent and she will come home broke out in hives…every. single. time. I also love the Charlies Soap Laundry Pre-Spray! I have used this on more than just our clothes too! It’s been a miracle worker on rugs, clothes, and even furniture! I used it to get pink nail polish out of my white and gray rug once! It came out completely! You can even ask my husband, I did a dance and almost happy tears when I got that out! If you need one clean laundry product start with this one, you won’t be disappointed!

Floor cleaner….ugh, this is one I have struggled with for a while. Back before I knew better I loved the Swiffer Wet Jet. But the chemicals used in the floor cleaner was ridiculous, but I loved the convenience. So I got this Microfiber Spray Mop from Walmart for less than $20 and I love the convenience it brings. I’m able to make my own floor cleaner, the mop part is machine washable, and it’s super small and ready to go whenever I need it, just like the former mop I had. The homemade floor cleaner I use is made up of white vinegar, Essential Oils, and water! This is the recipe I followed off of Pinterest!

Carpet cleaner: well, we don’t have carpet in our house anymore, but we do have rugs! If you ask my husband, I have too many. He’s one of those, “why have rugs if you hate carpet?” people. I don’t understand those people. We recently invested in a Carpet Cleaner from Walmart to help with the deep cleaning that I may not get if I do the whole scrubbing on my hands and knees. With having pets in our house, this was something we have been going back and forth with for awhile. So we bought the best one that seemed to work for homes with pets. It does say you’re supposed to use their cleaner….but let’s face it. I’m not going to.

My last and some of my most favorite of cleaning “products” are my Norwex Cloths! Seriously, they seem too good to be true, but they live up to everything they stand for. A great company with a great mission of safe ingredients and sustainability. I went to a friends party and bought a cloth for everything, literally, everything….windows, kitchen, bathroom, and a cloth for every surface in my house! I’ve used the cloths to clean out my car even. One day I was using my Norwex cloths to clean out my car while my husband was using the last of his Armorall wipes. When he got to his glass wipes, they were leaving nasty streaks all over his windows. So naturally, wanting to prove a point that cleaner products can still perform up to par, I went and took my glass Norwex cloth and cleaned his glass and got rid of his streaks. He even admitted that my cloths performed better! Yup, he admitted I was right about something for a change!

Switching to safer doesn’t always have to be an expensive and overwhelming change. Swapping out your antibacterial wipes for some Seventh Generation all purpose cleaner and some good ole fashion rags are a great substitution. If you’re ever in need of a recommendation, let me know! I’ve tried LOTS! Some have worked and some have never entered my house again. Thanks for following along and I hope this sparks a new ‘clean’ way for your next cleaning endeavors!
